How do you get the best cruise vacations package? Should you go to a travel agent, or should you just purchase a cruise package by yourself? Booking with a cruise specialist is the best way to get the best deal and discount when going on a cruise.

Travel agents tend to have better relationship with the cruise lines and the cruise companies trust these agents and consider them a distribution channel. Travel agents have a better chance of getting you a discount or an upgrade and can accommodate changes. These occurrences could not happen with an internet company. Basically, if you book with an internet company, expect no customer service.

Travel agents work on a commission basis and get paid by the cruise line after your booking. Many people think that people working on a commission are out to get you, but in reality an agent is like a business advisor that provides a lot of benefits. Personally, going through an agent is worth the extra cost. If you book through an internet company there are many more things that could go wrong. You will get what you pay for and if you decided to save $50 by purchasing online, it could cost you hundreds of dollars down the road.

Cruise vacation travel agents have the ability to book the best cruise for you depending your specific needs and desires. However, some agents can be pushy and try to make you purchase additional perks that you might not want. Remember to only pay for what you want and not to let any agent push you into buying something that's out of your budget. There are plenty of agents that will treat you right and get you the best deal without being pushy.

Some important questions you should ask your travel agent are: what is the cruise lines cancellation policy? If I want to make changes to my flight, routing, dates, and so on, will the insurance policy cover everything in case of missed or canceled flights? Does your agency deal with only one, or several different insurance companies? Does the cruise line offer advance bookings discounts or incentives?
